Privacy Policy

Effective date: 1 October 2026

The short version. Kancil collects no personal data. Your child's progress stays on your device. There are no accounts, no ads and no advertising or cross-app tracking. To learn which lessons work, the app sends anonymous usage stats (for example "lesson finished, 3 stars"), with no name and nothing that identifies your child or your phone. You can switch this off in the parent area.

What the app stores (on your device only)

Learning progress: completed lessons, coins, streaks, practice history.
The name and mascot each child picks (one profile per child), never sent anywhere.
Parent settings: your PIN, the screen-time exchange rate, the grant history, the daily reminder time, and the language of the parent area.
An optional on-device play log (answers, retries, timing) that exists so you can review difficulty. It leaves the device only if you yourself export and share it.

Deleting the app deletes all of this. Parent Settings also has a "Reset Kancil" control (under Advanced) that erases it on the phone.

Anonymous usage stats

So we can see how Kancil is used and make it better, the app sends a small record of what happens in it to our analytics provider, PostHog (servers in the EU). That record contains:

What was done: app opened, screen viewed, lesson started, finished or left, stars and coins earned, purchase started or completed.
Which content: lesson, unit and Tahap (level) ids, and which Tahap the family owns.
Technical basics: app version, iOS or Android and its version, and a random id created when the app is installed.

It never contains your child's name or chosen mascot, your PIN, anything typed into the app, your contacts or location, or any advertising or device identifier. The random id is not linked to you, is not shared with anyone else, and is never used for advertising. Deleting the app deletes the id.

Switching it off: parent area → Settings → Privacy → "Share anonymous usage stats". When it is off, nothing is sent from that phone.

What else leaves the device

Learning progress itself is never uploaded, and Kancil has no accounts. The app contacts Apple or Google for purchases and Expo for software update checks; those providers may process ordinary technical request data under their own privacy policies. Bundled lesson audio ships inside the app.

Purchases

Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never see or store your payment details. See our Terms of Use for purchase details.

Children's privacy

Kancil is designed for children to play and parents to supervise. We do not sell, share or use any data for advertising or profiling, and we do not build a profile of any child. The anonymous usage stats above are used only to understand and improve the app. Keeping progress on-device is our main privacy safeguard.

Permissions

Kancil asks to show notifications, only for the daily reminder, which you can switch off. Reminders are scheduled on the phone itself; there is no push server. It requests no camera, microphone, location or contacts access.

Changes

If Kancil changes what it sends, we will update this policy before the change ships and describe it plainly. Any feature that would upload your child's progress or personal details (for example cloud backup) will be opt-in.
